Lake Nerine - 3 Passes Loop
This one was wild.. Lasting 4 days, 3 of which were over 9 hours of hiking through gnarly New Zealand back country off the side of The Routeburn Track, climbing up and over these incredible peaks Cam is admiring in the image below..
This one broke us. We all came away with injuries of some sort. Cam lost his big toe nail, Sam had a blister the size of my thumb on her big toe, and I somehow gave myself a hemorrhoid! It pushed us to our limits, both physically and mentally, but simultaneously was the best I’ve felt in years!
So to start things off, the 3 Passes route is located just off The Routeburn Track, one of New Zealands most famous hikes. Day 1 consists of taking on the Sugar Loaf Saddle, a gruelling steep ascent that takes you up to the first mountain pass at 1154 metres above sea level. A decent just as steep on the other side brings you down in to the valley leading through incredible beech forest up to Theatre Flat
